Dean's Office : Message from the Dean

As the institution at the very center of the world's most dynamic business environment, Santa Clara University's Leavey School of Business is the heart of Silicon Valley in more ways than one.

Our location—just minutes from the headquarters of leading high tech firms and innovators in the Internet, software, IT, life sciences, and biotech fields—enables our students to move with ease from their classes in Kenna Hall to their careers in companies with operations that encircle the globe. This proximity to fledgling startups and Fortune 500 firms presents our faculty with real-time research opportunities as executives tap Leavey School faculty for solutions to business challenges.

Our connection to Silicon Valley leaders, frequent contributors to classroom discussions and faculty initiatives, energizes and focuses our curriculum. The Executive MBA degree and our Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship are two of several new programs emerging from this partnership between our senior faculty and veteran executives.

The achievements of our alumni in social and political realms, as well as in the workplace, reflect Santa Clara's commitment to educating the whole person. Our students bring both depth of thought and breadth of perspective to the organizations they go on to join. Santa Clara alumni lead manufacturing companies and service firms, creating value for shareholders and others, and they build successful businesses and families, accomplishments strongly determined by their SCU experience.

This year's annual report documents the increasing influence of Santa Clara Business School students, faculty, friends, and alumni. As a result, we participate in—rather than simply observe—the phenomenal activity of this region, enhancing our reputation as the premier business program at the heart of Silicon Valley.

Barry Z. Posner
